The Pretenders: relationships are like jacket zippers.

10:33:00 PM

Sometimes relationships are like pantyhose, or a jacket zipper. Remember once you got out of the house and realized there was a small hole in your pantyhose, or spent too much time trying to zip up your jacket and just went outside with it open? Now my ladies, don’t we all sometimes do it. Knowing something is starting to break and we still let it be, making believe it might go away and fix by itself, or that nobody but us will notice? We have all been there and instead of repairing it, we let unmade decisions on the wait, while telling ourselves and our friends that everything was just what we wanted.

Unfortunately relationships that are starting to break will not cut it with a bit of nail polish or a button. When things are starting to fail, when there are mixed signals, do fix your zipper, or stop wearing/being covered by that broken and useless item.

Today I was trying dresses on at home and saw a zipper was damaged. Instead of fixing it I stored it back in the closet. Just like when some FB/IG notification pops up and you swipe it up to make it invisible, and forget about it. If you close your eyes for long enough it may be gone...same goes for the memories that notification may bring you. Instead of storing it back inside the closet, next time I hope I finally fix my zipper or throw the dress away.

  1. This is the first time I've heard this analogy and it's so freaking true! A lot of problems are just put in the back of people's minds until all this animosity builds up and ruins the relationship. Especially with relationships, we must be proactive in fixing the problems that arise

  6. Great metaphor...so easy to ignore what could be easily fixed (or kicked to the curb!).

  8. I hadn't really considered relationships like jacket zippers before but I think you've hit the nail on the head!

  9. That's a funny analogy. Hadn't thought of relationships like that, but you're right, when something is broken you should do something, not ignore it.
