Brooklyn-hearted: Dyker Heights goes loco at Christmas

3:19:00 PM
Brooklyn has the crazy xmas neighborhood we all have seen in Christmas movies, and its name is Dyker Heights. This is a residential neighborhood which has become quite known among xmas lovers and tourists who, like me, took the ride to see whether the craziness was for real. Believe me it is.

It seems the whole community takes part in this lightning, so south Brooklyn gets really in the xmas mood, and if you are not sure about what metro station is the right one to stop, do not worry because you will see all the lights on your way.

The decorations are insane. We say nutcrackers, snowmen, Santas (singing and dancing), penguins.. everything xmas-related!

Although I have seen incredibly decorated houses in other blogs and websites reporting about it, we decided to visit the neighbourhood quite early in case we got lost when coming back (we did anyway) and maybe 5 p.m. is dark enough for some lights to lit up but maybe 7 p.m. would have been better so everything is really set up. So I recommend visiting the houses arund 6.30 - 7 p.m

Although there are guided tours for different prices, those who prefer to go on their own can use the subway. the D Train to 71 St, Brooklyn leaves you around 15min away to the house. Also, the B4 bus towards Sheepshead Bay Knapp St to Bay Ridge Parkway and 12th Avenue is another option.

The lights are lit up the weekend after Thanksgiving, so I say you can go either mid-December, we visited the neighborhood on the 25th. However it is said the best displays are on weekends.

The best lights are far from the station so it is worth a 20min walk (that's why we didn't get to see the most spectacular ones!).
